Hand Drafting, Watercolor, and Model | Spring 2007
Our library project challenged us to design on a small, irregular city plot, taking urban context into account. The site was next to a park in the center of a proposed urban redevelopment that would replace existing suburban homes with apartments and mixed-use buildings. To fit on the plot, the reading room composed the bulk of the front elevation with the rare books room, bathrooms, and offices perpendicular. The entry hall acts as a hinge between the two. In order to provide extra space for patrons, I included two small gardens, one near the front next to an octagonal tower element and a large landscaped area in the back with parking covered by a pergola.
