We worked with Mosaic - a group that serves those with developmental disabilities - to design a group home for eight of its male clients. We had the opportunity to meet with Mosaic employees, several of the men who lived in the current home, and members of their families, to identify problems with their current home.

I chose to provide each of the men with their own bedrooms, with bathrooms shared between two. This created the challenge of fitting an 8-bedroom home into a neighborhood of smaller houses. In order to meet this, I created a two story building that looks fairly small facing the residential street on the south of the site, and increasing the building's mass along a commercial street to the west. The Arts and Crafts style both fit in the neighborhood and allowed me to play with the massing of the home.
