Hand Drafting, Watercolor, and Model | Spring 2007
One of my favorite projects so far asked us to create a townhouse for diplomats who were required to entertain guests. Although we had developed interiors before, in this project they were the focus. In the townhouse, an intricate elliptical staircase connects the three main floors and basement. The ground floor is reserved for public functions, with features such as a two-story entry hall framing the staircase and secondary bar attached to the living room. The second floor is the owners' personal space, including a master bedroom with its own sitting room and roof terrace. Two guest rooms and a balcony highlight the third floor, and a wine cellar and auxiliary spaces round out the basement. For the exterior, I choose an upscale French style that might be preferable to the client.
