Rome Studies Villa
Rome, Italy
Pen and Watercolor | Spring 2008
After spending a year in Rome, we were asked to design a new center for our study abroad program. My interpretation of our Rome campus is entered via an administration and classroom building that - by using slight Jeffersonian motifs - gives the impression of an American school. Removed from the street are two student housing buildings, each with a small central courtyard surrounded by three-bedroom apartments and a ground floor containing lounges and study space. These buildings are influenced heavily by our studies of mixed-use housing in Rome and my travels throughout Europe, especially Seville, Spain.
Shown in perspective is the quad created by the back of the administration building, with a loggia visible on the left, and the front of the student housing. A pedestrian bridge connects the two buildings.
